Time to wax political... In early June the Obama campaign sent out an email with a letter from Barak that said: "This Administration has put forward a false choice between the liberties we cherish and the security we demand. When I am president, there will be no more illegal wire-tapping of American citizens; no more national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime; no more tracking citizens who do nothing more than protest a misguided war. Our Constitution works, and so does the FISA court."Yesterday he voted for the new FISA bill which does two things I strongly disagree with. - Provides retroactive immunity to telecoms that may or may not have done anything wrong. We won't know if they broke the law, what law or how bad until the DoJ completes a report next year. On top of this, US law already states the telecoms are not liable if they act under orders from the federal government and do so in good faith. This essentially means that while they'd have to defend it in court, they are in the clear. The only problem is that Qwest refused to comply which may leave the door open for challenging the "acted in good faith" defense. - Allows warrantless wiretapping of US citizens. Previously, wiretaps required a FISA judge's approval. No judge ever denied one. The only advantage it gives is the snoops no longer need to have oversight in to what and why they are snooping. Eliminating accountability is something the Bush administration has been working at for eight years and now Obama helped. So this guy wants republican votes and has to swing right to get them. There are better tools than constitutional shredding to use. I've read people complaining that McCain abstained from the vote by not showing up. Ethically, that's wrong, but politically it was far better than casting a "yes" vote.

It is in near-perfect condition and was recently serviced so it is in excellent working order. He's moving and doesn't want to haul it to Portland.
$50, lemme know if you are interested before it hits craigslist.

Back in business! A new server is (mostly) up and humming. I had to rebuild between things while doing my regular job and do it without backups. The Voodoo priest came in handy. There was alchemy, there was smoke (literally, it smoked). Tue, Jul. 8th, 2008, 07:48 am
Server drive go *poof*.
Everything is down... so much for working from home.

I want to start a benevolent organization. Sooper Seekrit of course and it should involve music, alcohol and in depth discussion of irrelevant issues of the day. Satellite chapters around the world are of course welcome. We'll all get t-shirts. Who's in? What should it be called?

I need a few more responses to my money poll. http://skywayman.livejournal.com/407516.htmlI want to distill the results soon. Plz to assist. I saw, lit, burned myself with, smelled or was involved with a total of zero fireworks this year. Instead I helped Alyssa's dad install a chain link fence. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE! Of course this means he will help me install my own fence. Three cheers for mutual back scratching. I will also be happy to hear from anyone else who would like to volunteer their fence-building services some time in the next few weeks. Any takers? I pay in beer and pop.
