I know I've been MIA, but I've been traveling and prepping for this: Tonight is the sixth Goth Prom! It's a fantastic night!

My home computer has crashed. That's right, I'm a systems engineer and I have a dead computer. Long live Windows! I have two laptops at home, neither of which have access to my photos so while I have a pile of pictures to put up, I have no way to do it at the moment. Bugger. So the question is... do I rebuild my home machine or take the opportunity to build a new one? The greedy monkey in me says "Build a new one!" but the penny pinching miser in me says "Seriously? Don't you have enough shit to pay for right now?" Also, my work is moving my cheese. I'm losing my beautiful 9th floor office with a huge south facing view of downtown Minneapolis and will be moved in to a tiny 4x4 cube in a building with no windows and shitty fluorescent lighting. "Cry me a river." you say, "My job is worse because blah blah blah uphill both ways barefoot on crushed glass, 100 degrees below zero while carrying 300 pounds of half rotten bull penises." But I work damn hard and after 4 years of a fantastic office, deserve it or not, it is gonna suck. Also, the equipment I work on isn't moving so I'll be a mile away from the gear I manage... which makes no sense. Long live corporate America! And now I have to get back to work.

Before I head out the door, a quick story. Last night I was testing my new kitchen mandolin. Damn is that thing sharp and fun! Shoop, shoop, shoop went the carrot, fast and smooth! 1/8 inch slices falling to the counter top. Shoop, shoop, shoop, so smooth, so fun and so fast! Shiip! goes my thumb. Oops, I got so carried away I didn't realize I was out of carrot. Bloooompf, drip drip drip goes the blood, leaving my thumb like a red, runny rat from a sinking ship. "I'm outa here! Wee!" "Hmmm" I think to myself while staring at the large hole that once contained a good portion of thumb, "You'd think this would hurt, but it just feels cold. OH SHIT I'M BLEEDING ALL OVER THE PLACE!" After pouring peroxide over it (what a mess and funny funny sensation), I smeared it with anti-biotic ointment goop and put a bandage on it the size of a softball... which was immediately soaked. Alyssa and I proceeded to search the pile of carrot slices for one of a more fleshy color, but to no avail. Since we were in fact in the middle of cooking, we continued to make dinner, assuming the thumb piece was probably in there somewhere. After all, where could it go? Following dinner, I went to change my now heavy, wet bloody wad of gauze... at which point I whacked it on the door frame. NOW it hurt! I spent today changing the bandage and cleaning the wound all while sitting at my desk at work. When I got home, Alyssa had a surprise for me. My thumb piece! She found it! I didn't eat it after all! Actually, that would be a better story and a decent argument on the fundamentals of vegetarianism. In any case, the thumb chunk, with finger prints still in tact, was certainly in rough shape. It's all dried out and a little hard. Like old cheese, but still flesh-tone. I put it in a small bottle with a cork in the top. Maybe some day I'll give it as a gift to someone... or bake it in to a cake.
Work has me busy, the house has me busy and then I sleep. BOOOORING! I haven't really looked at LJ since the inauguration. I read back on some individual journals, but that's about it. I replaced a pile of outlets and light switches this past weekend. It was ass-cold again so I worked on the house. I also finished installing the last of the kitchen cabinet doors. All that is left is the trim (install and paint) and the kitchen should be done. That is, until I decide to put in a gas range which requires me to run new gas lines... maybe that's a project for 2010. ++ DTC has syndicated DVD reviews from A. Lucard! Read those and all our reviews, including a review of Caustic's new album This Is Jizzcore!by clicking here. You know you want to.

So the cards I'm sending out today... yeah not happening. Tomorrow I guess. I quickly made a card from a photo I took and put it on a USB drive to print today so I can stuff them in all the envelopes I already addressed. Except I didn't. When I got to the photo kiosk at Target, the USB drive did not contain the image. And it isn't on my home machine anymore either. I have a rule on my computer: nothing on the desktop. All my data is very organized... and I think I saved the image to my desktop and of course it has been tossed. All my work to be printed is in the folder called "To be printed" and the card... isn't. Either a hacker deleted my card and nothing else, or I had an airhead moment and trashed it. !@#!%$!@#! So your cards are going to be late. I'll make a new one tonight and mail them tomorrow. Those of you outside the U.S., especially in Iraq, your cards would have been late anyway so *thpt*.
